Three Million Miles Clocked And Still Going

Volvo has reached another milestone of excellence with the red 1966 P180 driven and owned by Irv Gordon. While cruising down the Seward Highway in Alaska, this car turned over 3 million miles! As a native of New York, this marked not only another milestone for Volvo, but it was Irv’s first visit to
Alaska as well.

Mr. Gordon put the first million miles on in 1987, 20 years after buying his brand new P180 and clocked the 2nd book again as he heads toward the four million mark! Noted for most miles put on a car by the original owner, Mr. Gordon has not only put his name and his accomplishment in the Guinness Book of World Records, but he has gotten Volvo's name in there as well. There is no doubt that Volvo engineering builds a car to last with Irv Gordon's accomplishments.

Does Your Car Give You 1,000,000 Miles?

It's no secret that when you buy a new car and drive it off the lot, the value drops because the mileage has started adding up. Every mile you put on it is few less dollars it is worth. That is, with every car except Volvos. Volvo has a club exclusive to Volvo owners, the “1,000,000 Mile Club,” reserved for Volvo cars that are built tough and reliable enough to reach the 1,000,000 miles.

Volvo's first car was released in 1927 and with the road conditions being bad and fuel was so expensive, as well as no established highways, travel was a challenge and cars didn't last long. By the 1960s though, automakers were advertising that they were making better quality vehicles that would last and were more reliable. This is when Volvo released a program for their customer, attaching a badge to the front of their cars. The badge would be a symbol of a smart buyer of a good investment.

Today, a Volvo going more than 1,000,000 miles isn't as remarkable as it was then. While the club still exist, there is now the 1,000,000 million mile club because this well-engineered, manufactured vehicle is lasting way beyond the 1,000,000 miles.

Volvo Car Group’s New Connectivity System Receives Red Dot Design Award

At Hunter Volvo one of the things about the arrival of the 2014 models that excites us the most is the strides in innovation and technology that Volvo makes with its models every year. And one such innovation has already been making waves in the technological field as awarded Volvo’s new connectivity system Sensus Connected Touch its prestigious Red Dot Design award.

The Sensus Connected Touch system provides the Volvo owner outstanding possibilities including the world’s first voice activated Spotify connection integrated in a car. “Our connectivity solutions are designed to make driving more enjoyable and safe. The Red Dot Design Award confirms that this approach to an intuitive, human-centric user experience fulfills modern car owners’ desire to remain constantly connected also when driving,” says Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service at Volvo Car Group. He adds: “The introduction of Sensus Connected Touch paves the way for the large, factory-fitted portrait touch screen that will be part of the infotainment package in the all-new XC90 in 2014.”

In order to offer the user the most flexibility, the Sensus Connected Touch system can be operated through the touch screen, the center stack controls, or the Steering wheel. And on top of this, all of the music sources can be voice activated. The connection for the system itself is made either by a car mounted 3G/4G dongle or through the driver’s mobile phone. Internet data is transferred through Wi-Fi between the mobile phone and the Sensus Connected Touch. IT’s also possible to share a Wi-Fi network with every passenger in the car via the dongle.

And one of the most exciting parts is that Volvo Designed the Sensus Connected Touch to be backwards compatible with all Volvo models dating from 2011 onwards. It’s a dealer-fitted accessory that can be fitted into most versions of the S60, V60, Xc60, XC60, XC70 and S80. Even if you’re buying an older model or would like the system in a model you’ve already purchased, the crack team at Hunter Volvo Asheville can help you get one installed.

If you want to test out the award worthy Sensus Connected Touch system come to Hunter Volvo for a test drive. Let the friendly staff here show you why Hunter Volvo is one of the best car dealerships in Asheville NC.
